Alphonsa College - LibraryThe College Library started functioning from the inception of the College in 1964. The present library building was inaugurated in 1976 by late Mar. Sebastian Vayalil, the founder of the College. There are about 38,173 books, 108 journals and periodicals, as well as seven newspapers (five Malayalam and two English) available in the library. Bound volumes of journals and periodicals are also available. The Open Access system, the Dewey Decimal Classification system and the Classified Catalogue Code systems are used in the library. The library also caters to other learning and reference needs of the students. These include, the compilation of question papers which are bound and made available to students for reference and photocopying; the maintenance of a special section for career related books with the support of the Career Club; the maintenance of a notice board displaying important notifications and notices received from outside institutions and organisations; the filing of newspaper clippings which are arranged with an index; the display of new books and journals; provision of referral services by way of suggesting other libraries or sources from where required information may be obtained; provision of photocopying services; organising user orientation programmes for first year graduate and post-graduate students; providing audio-visual facilities, etc..

Resource Sharing is also encouraged by the library. Alumni of the college who are doing their postgraduate courses in other colleges are allowed to refer the library materials with the permission of the Principal. The public also are permitted to make use of the library facilities on request. Facilities are also open to students as well as research scholars of the nearby colleges, as well as to members of the public who want occasional consultation of reading materials of the library. Several Departments such as the Zoology, Botany and Clinical Nutrition Departments have separate Department libraries. Students of the college are encouraged to spend their leisure time fruitfully in the library.
