Features of the Department

• First department to start P.G. Course.
• Two members of the faculty possess PhD degree, six members possess M.Phil degree and one doing Ph.D.
• Two faculty of the department contributed towards subject related reference books published by Zoological society of Kerala.
• Faculty of the department has published 18 papers in  National and International journals.
• Five research papers were presented in National and International seminars by the faculty of the department.
• Department has completed three projects.
• Department has three ongoing projects.
• Proposals for two projects have been submitted to the U.G.C.
• Department could produce Alumni of National standing like Sumi Cyriac, Sandhya B & Shoji Joseph.
• Department conducted various Research studies related to environmental issues.
• Instituted three Scholarships by the Department.

• Dept organizes a seminar series ECOZPHYR.Every year one intercollegiate/ national seminar.
• Dept organizes a lecture series-- M Sc Zoology Silver Jubilee Memorial Lecture.
• Monthly Quiz competition.
• College level blood grouping.
• Butterfly garden.
• Installing of vermicompost unit.
• Manuscript magazine- "Ecosophia" - Release manuscript magazine every year.
• Visit at least TwoResearch Institute-every year.
• Exhibitions are conducted at least once in a year , which are visited by many students from neighboring schools .
• Observing important days like world environmental day, world aids day, Teachers day,Hiroshima day etc..

• Based on information available about the Alumni there are Doctors, IPS holders College lecturers, Ph.D holders , scientists, , Forensic scientists, bank employees, Higher secondary teachers including principals and many school teachers. Many of our alumni are employed in gulf and European countries, many employed in govt. departments, semi-government organization and private sector enterprises. There are some former students elected as members of local self-government bodies. The feedback from many of the Alumni provides enough solace and even exhilaration to the Department that the alumni are well placed and lead a happy and contended life.

• Intercollegiate seminar on ECOZOPHYR 2000 ‘ Environmental Awareness programme, organized by Zoology Association and Nature club Alphonsa College Pala and Student Amenities Center M. G. Uty on 1st and 2nd Dec. 2000.
• National Seminar-ECOZEPHYR 2001- on ‘Conservation and management of Bioresources, from 28/2/2001 to 2/3/2001. U.G.C. Sponsored.
• A seminar on ‘Women Empowerment’.7th & 8th December 2001   Sponsored by DSS M G University .
• A seminar on ‘Awareness on Cardiac diseases among Youth’ August 7th 2003.
• Seminar on ‘Non-conventional energy source’ August 13th 2003 Sponsored by KRL.
• ECOZEPHYR 2003 Inter Collegiate seminar on ‘Recent trends in Protection and Management of Environment’ on  9th and 10th  October 2003 Sponsored by Pollution Control Board Kerala.
• National Seminar – ECOZEPHYR 2004 Geo-Aqua Convention from 15th – 17thJanuary 2004. Sponsored CSIR , STEC and MOEF.
• ECOZEPHYR 2005 Inter Collegiate seminar on ‘Recent trends in Environmental Biotechnology’ 15th and 16th February 2005- UGC Sponsored.
